Okay, so my belief is that if you can fix your printing problem, BibDesk will start working again; there's no point in trying any BibDesk-specific workarounds, since it'll just fail at some other point. It's hanging on an http request to CUPS. Could your firewall be blocking CUPS access? You might be able to get to the CUPS webpage and configure it manually.
