No attachment came through, but that's not a big deal.  In Terminal, can you 
run `mdls /path/to/file.pdf` where file.pdf is one of these PDFs that displays 
incorrectly?  Please copy the output so we can see what it looks like.

That's a relief...the icon problem needs to be resolved, but if the correct 
file opens, at least your data isn't corrupt.
