Adam: I've gathered the requested sample for opening and then saving. Zip files 
apparently don't make it through the list gateway, so please inform how best to 
send it to you.

Christiaan: Thank you for your graciousness.  I'll play with turning off 
automatic conversion.  Auto (re)filing is important to me, so I don't think 
your solution will help me.  Overall, I was very happy with BibDesk. You have 
all done fantastic work in producing it!  Unfortunately, this one design choice 
and my use case had an irreconcilable conflict.
