I have no longer a Mac under the previous system so I cannot compare.

Perhaps you could keep the document icons (eg
/Applications/TeX/BibDesk.app/Contents/Resources/risDocIcon.icns) and for the
app icon, use a yellow background and add the pen and the guillemets over it
with Icon Composer app…

seems a little big. Is this very necessary? Isn’t, for example, the file
icon_512x512_Normal@2x_1.png (yellow textured square) a working file (for
creating icons, like [email protected]?) and not a file really used by
the app?
These files can probably be smaller.
Perhaps this can be in mind when you will have the time for modernize the icons?
