Dear Sri Kaushal,,

I don't think there are very many people talking sensibly on the issue of
Environment. Just by saying that all others are pseudo- environmentalists or
religious fundamentalists does not help us- neither in understanding of the
env. issues nor in finding solution to the problems facing us. Nor by
quoting Mr. Mandela we get anywhere because we do not know the context in
which it was said.

Presently, a lot of discussion is going on on Climate Change -whether it is
there or not and what may be the solution in either case. Many took the
"Joint science academies’ statement:Global response to climate change" to
accept that Climate Change is there Such a document can confuse many
people. It will be an unscientific approach to accept them -the Sarkari
(Govt ) Scientists as they are on their face value.

Most important is to ask whether there is a limit to development because
development seem to be interrelated to Global Warming/ Climate Change. No
answer except trade and commerce proposal seem to be coming.

My own understanding of the Climate Change is that either the diagnosis is
wrong or the prescription is severely faulty. I understand that changes in
temperature have been observed in the past also. There is a need to study
this phenomenon by more scientific accuracy and in historical context.
Because the cause of Climate Change is shown to be massive burning of fossil
fuel, coal, oil, gas etc. But no IPCC or Scientific recommendation refers to
closing down such systems which consume the fossil fuel e.g. the Car
factories which is the most unwanted expansion on earth. No recommendation
has been made nor individual Nation has decided ever to lower down
production of Cars and encourage introduction and betterment of public
transport system. Another reason that all the documents for consideration at
Global or G-8/ G-20 or whatever G- - levels talk about expansion of
business like carbon trading and transfer of newer technologies from
developed to developing nations. How on Earth can anybody think of
maintaining the same level of Carbon dumping in the atmosphere and still be
smart enough to control Climate Change? In my considered view it is more of
a trade and commerce than Enviroment damage control or Climate Change
control discussion. We had Mr. Bush till the other day that American Life is
not for compromise. So according to him somebody else's life belonging to
Third World countries should be for compromise.

What does one expect unless the third world can jointly fight out against
such schemes of the Global Powers?
