I can't remember whether the Council ever thanked
you personally for placing the bike rack in Suburban Station behind the 17th
Street entrance, but it is much appreciated. So much so that it has been
outgrown by the number of cyclists trying to use it. Ergo, the purpose of
this letter.
Earlier this week I saw a message taped to a couple of bikes locked to the railing behind the bike rack. The notices indicated that locking bikes to the railing was not permitted and that bicyclists should use the rack. On the evening I saw the notices (and after I locked my bike to the rack) there was no more room in the rack. I am sure cyclists come and go all day so that at various times there probably is space in the rack for bikes that may still be locked to the railing, but space may not have been available earlier when the bicyclist got to the station. Clearly recent experience has shown that the bicycle rack was needed and is used. Bicycles not in rack, but locked to a nearby railing, clearly indicate the "best effort" of cyclist's in finding appropriate space to store their bikes. Clean Air Council believes that simply placing one or more additional bicycle racks in the station will solve the problem. Thank you again for placing the present rack in the station.
