Metro has not replaced the 700s, and maintains that the 700s are too small for
the racks, since the current racks won't fit on the mounting points on the
front. Which led to my comment about a machinist being able to rig it up. And
Metro definitely has those, since they do all their own repairs/refits.

As far as the alder/media goes, I will try that. Unfortunately, I have no
*proof* that the buses could take the racks, all I have is the fact that the
buses are wider than a bicycle is long, and it shouldn't be too hard to adapt 15
(or however many are required for the fleet) of the racks to fit the existing
700s for as long as they are going to keep the 700s.

Thanks for the comments,
Rich

I'm confused (not hard to do...). Are you saying the 700 series weren't
retired? Or were they replaced by yet another set of buses, that were ADA-
compliant, but Metro hasn't put the racks on them yet? Are the 700's really too
small for bike racks, or is Metro just saying that?

Ranting won't help. Constructive recommendations probably won't either, but
they stand a lot better chance. If you can substantively claim that the 700's
(or whatever we're talking about) can be fitted with the racks, present the
details to Metro. While you're at it, bring it to the bike/ped/MV commission
meeting Tuesday evening. Let your alder know. Let the media know that you've
let all these parties know.

But make it constructive. Instead of "Metro has had its collective thumb up its
tailpipe about those 700s, blah blah....", say "On the eve of the first
anniversary of one of Metro's most popular new features, here's an opportunity
that'll cost the taxpayers next to nothing, but fix a gaping hole in that
feature, blah blah, Metro has taken its lumps lately over lotsa things, but
this is something Metro can be proud of, and here's the new director's chance
to make it even better, blah blah..."
