I don't know anything about this project, except how it goes to the keys
(if it really does)....US1. It's the ONLY way to get to the keys without a
boat or a plane.
South of Miami, it used to be one of the most dangerous roads in America
for cyclists, because people drove 60-70mph despite 25mph limits. Then the
police started writing multi-hundred dollar tickets AND EVERY GAS STATION
ON US1 SOUTH OF MIAMI POSTED COPIES OF THOSE TICKETS ABOVE THE REGISTER.
Compliance is significantly better, despite doubling the Miami to Key West
drive time.
I've long advocated high ticket prices. While I normally don't like
regressive taxes, I like this idea. Besides, it's not a regressive tax on
driving, per se, it's a regressive tax on driving dangerously and
inconsiderately.
