Midwest Renewable Energy Association presents:

Central Madison Guided Bike Tour of Solar Homes : (New in 2001)
About 18 miles, or shorter 7-mile loop

Meet the tour at the McKay Center (the first tour stop) at 9:00
Saturday October 13. The McKay Center is in the UW Arboretum, which
is easily reachable by bike and conveniently located 1/2 mile off the
westbound beltline. Free parking is available. Before lunch visit
three other solar installations in the older Nakoma and Regent Street
neighborhoods on Madison's near west side. Then have lunch in one of
several inexpensive to moderately priced Monroe Street eateries
(vegetarian dishes available), or bring a sack lunch.

After lunch see several east side solar installations plus the solar
systems at the McKay Visitor's Center. Arrive back at McKay about
4:00.
Cost is $10. Bring a helmet, water bottle and snack, plus sack lunch
or lunch money.
Registration: Space is limited and advance registration is required.
Call the MREA office (715-592-6595) to register for the tour.

Note: Out of respect for our schedule commitment with the homeowners,
riders will need to maintain a pace of 10 mph. No mechanical support
or sag wagon is provided.

Those who desire a shorter bike tour can head directly back to the
McKay Visitor's Center before or after lunch, which cuts about 11
miles off the trip. The last tour stop is on the East Side of
Madison. East side cyclists need not return to the McKay Center.

Those who want a more leisurely day can take the free self-guided
tour by bike or car at their own pace or join the bus tour. Call the
MREA office (715-592-6595) to find out more about these tours or to
get a free program guide. The guide lists the address of open homes,
their solar features, and open times.
