Bike pals:

There is a last minute opportunity for someone with free time Thurs. AARP
is hosting a Tour de Traffic Thurs, Sept 27 from 1-4 pm. (More info on what
this is below - and an invitation to participate if you wish) They need
someone (maybe 2 people) to pick up a few bikes from Budget, drive them out
to the selected locations and reload them after the event is over.

AARP will pay you, so it's a way to pick up a few extra bucks. Since they
will probably be renting a van, you may need to be 25 y/o to drive it. If
you are interested, contact Gary Slaats at

Tour de Traffic is part of an AARP program to examine environmental
barriers to physical activity for adults 50+. They will be taking a
busload of people to visit 3 sites in Madison: Monroe and Sprague;
University and Midvale; and Old Sauk and High Point. We will discuss the
environment and whether it is conducive to biking and walking as part of
one's daily life. People will get off the bus and walk/bike the area.

There is limited space on the bus (I think it is nearly full), but you can
also join us at the sites at the following times:

Monroe & Sprague: just after 1 pm
Old Sauk & High Point: just before 2 pm
University & Midvale: 2:45 pm
There will also be a post-tour discussion at First Unitarian Church at
approx. 3:20 - 4 pm

Media, local politicians, decision makers of all types, health
professionals, planners, engineers, community activists, neighborhood
associations, non-profit organizations, etc. have all been invited and will
have representatives. The media will most likely be at Univ & Midvale, so
that would be the place to be.

This may become an annual event - in future years featuring the north, east
side or south sides. I'll let you know how it goes.
