The Madison Police Dept is holding one of their semi-annual bike (and other
recovered property) auction this Sat, Sept 28. Great chance to pick up a
commuter bike or even parts. Here's the announcement from MPD:

The City of Madison Police Bike and Property Auction is Saturday, September
28th, 2002. Bye week for the Badgers Football Team. The auction will be held at
the First Street Garage over on First and E. Johnson Streets, the near East
side of Madison, WI. Doors will open at 8:00 am, Bidding starts at 9:00 am.
Will start with general property first so you do not need to be there right
away at 8 am if you just want bikes. Each bike sold at the auction can have a
FREE City of Madison Bike Registration, an $8 dollar value, if you register it
on site that day. Check out the police website for information at
www.ci.madison.wi.us/police for the auction link to see what is out for
auction.
This is basically just City of Madison so will be smaller than the spring
auction but will still have about 300 or so bikes. Please pass on to others
that may be interested in this information.
