That's true. the point is that since the definition of a bar is something like "an establishment with more than 50% of its revenues resulting from the sale of alcoholic beverages" (no, I don't know if that's the correct percentage, and I'm sure that it's not the actual wording, but we do make a distinction between "bars" and "restaurants" in this city), then the parking lots of "bars" should probably be *required* to be 50% smaller than a "restaurant" with the same number of patrons.
Of course, this brings up the whole issue of *minimum* parking requirements, which many progressive municipalities (in the state of Oregon, e.g.) are simply changing to *maximum* parking requirements. The developers love it because it costs them less to build the same square footage of any land use, and it mitigates one of the hidden (actually, overlooked) subsidies to automobile transportation. besides, some of the best "bars", e.g. Crystal Corner, from my experience, serve no edible food. chuck 505At 07:12 AM 10/23/2002 -0500, Soylent Green wrote: >Because many of us go to bars to eat, watch games, act as a designated >driver for our friends,or any number of other activities which don't result >in our being under the influence of alcohol. > > >>On Tue, 22 Oct 2002, Bike To Work Week wrote: >> >>Then why are bars required to have parking lots? > > >_________________________________________________________________ >Surf the Web without missing calls!
