Biff: Good morning fans, and welcome to Cyclocross Surpise. We're here at the nexus of University Avenue, Campus drive, and Johnson Street to find out what today's adventure will bring. Speaking with me today is Darin Burleigh. Tell us about this new sport, Darin. Darin: Well, like a lot of people, my commute includes the 'counter-flow' bike lane along University avenue. Right here is the most challenging part. You never know what you'll find. When they first started the Johnson st. construction, there were often trucks parked in the bike lane, requiring manually lifting your bike over the concrete barriers. Biff: How has the course been lately? Darin: Well, I thought the construction crew had given up on us. For a few months it was just the occasional sand and pebbles in the lane. But lately there have been some real innovations. Biff: Tell us about that. Darin: Last week the path as completely blocked by a huge stack of rebar. With no warning at all. Biff: That would take some of the sport out of it, wouldn't it? Darin: I guess so. Today it was big chunks of concrete. It didn't completely block the path, but it did require some quick maneuvering. Biff: Is the course well marked? Darin: One time there were rumors of a 'detour' sign, but it was strategically placed to be unseen by many riders. Usually though each of the hurdles is a complete surprise. Biff: Have you asked the officals to mark the course? Darin: I talked to Warren Mohar of Mohar construction. He gave me the usual about 'we all have to suffer through this project blah blah blah'. I tried pointing out that all the other affected roads have lots of signs, traffic cones, blinkenlights, etc. I don't know why they can't do the same here. Biff: It sure is a nice day for a ride. Darin; Sure is, except for this portion of my commute. _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
