If the mowing is on the train track side of the bike path it's the rail company, although they mow over onto city property. If it's on the side towards Willy St. it's City Parks. I have a Prairie Garden along one block of that stretch and it sure as hell better of not gotten mowed down as it did a couple of years ago. I've got the stretch posted with no-mow signs. I'm out of town 'till next week so I can't check but would be interested to hear what's going on.

Slightly off subject, but not too far.

Had anyone else noticed the wildflowers growing between Blount and E. Wilson? The strip that I referring to runs between the path and the railroad tracks. Yesterday morning it was a wonderful mixture of yellow black eyed susans, bright blue chicory along with dozens of other wildflowers. There where virtually no noxious weeds such as thistles and ragweed to speak of. While riding in I took note of how lucky I am to live in a town where unmown green space can exist so close to downtown. By 4:30 the strips of flowers had been reduced mown fields with all of the visual appeal of a cut hayfield. Usually the mowing in this area is reserved to a small strip abutting the path. I cannot think of a good reason why fuel and labour was wasted in this exercise.

Does anyone know who is responsible for maintaining this area? City of Madison? Wisconsin Southern?

Any clues as to why the mowing was done?

Steve
