I got this from a hpv (human powered vehicle) for sale list announcing a fairing workshop and pass it along thinking maybe someone in Madison (maybe with cooperation and/or sponsorship of a student engineering group?) might be interested in doing one too. I think it's a neat idea (especially the part about building a fairing for a lottery-winning participant.)

Hello All:
On October 11 from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, I am doing a coroplast fairing building workshop at the Community Services Branch (CSB) of the YMCA here in downtown Biddeford ME (Southern Maine).

Introduction: Adding a fairing to a recumbent bicycle can provide a number of benefits, including increased speed at a given level of effort, weather protection, and greater visibility to motorists. Building a fairing yourself is a fun project that can increase the usefulness of your bicycle and save you money.

Workshop cost: $25.00 per participant.

Maximum class size: 10 participants.

Workshop structure and content: During the course of the workshop, we will build a front fairing using the amazing and versatile material known as coroplast. Course participants will be exposed to some of the methods for home fairing fabrication using this material. A coroplast front fairing (either short or long wheelbase recumbent) will be built for one of the participants (chosen beforehand at random by lottery).

To register: Please register by October 1 by calling the CSB at (207) 286-3200 and giving them your name and address and sending your Registration fees to the CSB at:

N. York County YMCA CSB
140 Main St., Suite 105
Biddeford, ME 04005

Dropping me an email would probably also be useful.

I have rescheduled the bike building workshop for November 8 and 9

For more information, please check out the Workshops page on my web site: www.velomobiles.net

If you have any questions, please email me.
Thanks,
-Ethan Davis
