Yes, they should have little red blinkie lights, or at least reflectors that
would show up in cyclists' headlights.

Or. the City should install the low-wattage, low-to-the-ground walkway-type
lighting (which a number of Bikies were advocating during the planning phase
of the project) that would illuminate the peds' feet. We saw some 18" high
light posts at a cabin in Canada last summer, along the path to the
outhouse. They had a little solar cell on the top that charged a recyclable
battery. It would set a good example for the City to start getting some of
its electrical supply off-the-grid.

** And speaking of bike lights, who has found a reliable, long-lasting bike
headlight (specific model)?? I've had bad luck with products from CatEye,
Planet Bike, and others. They're great while they last, but the switches
and contacts fail far earlier than we should expect from anything costing
$15-$25.

Does anyone know of a trouble-shooting guide for making light repairs?

I'm all for giving people a hard time if they don't have lights on their
bikes. Lights are cheap and plentiful, what's the problem? I've had too
many
near bike-on-bike collisions due to bikers in the dark (especially on the
very dark Southwest Bike Path). Have at 'em, I say!

Pedestrians also walk the Southwest Bike Path during the dead of night,
99% of them not carrying a light. Ideally, they should have lights, too.
