Hi Steve,

Please don't send me messages off list. I don't join listserv to get
individual message of harassment from people I don't even know (or at
least remember). I don't subscribe to this listserv for social chats,
either.

Concerning your comments about never hearing about my proposal, you
obviously were not reading this listserv when I first offered my proposal
up for discussion here back in April 1999..

What's YOUR "path" by the way? More catering to the highway developers
and users by any chance? I hope not. Too many people snuggle up to
those money bags the way it is. That's why things are so screwed up IN
MY OPINION.

Mike

"To a visitor from another planet, it would probably seem strange that
circumstances so obviously important to human welfare should have so
seldom been perceived as a matter of public concern. To us, it does not
seem strange that fish show no evidence of concern regarding their
relationship to the sea, for they have no way to conceptualize that
relationship or to influence its development. But, an intelligent
visitor from outer space would be able to see man as man can see the fish
-- as absolutely dependent upon the continuation of a very delicately
balanced and exceptional set of ecological conditions that are
statistically very rare throughout the universe. Unlike the fish,
however, the human animal has learned to temporarily circumvent natural
ecological controls governing his numbers and behavior. He can and does
manipulate his environment, and unlike most fish, he can and has
destroyed its viability at particular times and places...."

"Human society has now reached a point in population growth and
technological skill at which it can destroy the viability of the
environment .... To the extraterrestrial observer, man might appear as
unself-conscious as a fish in relation to his ecological situation. This
ecological innocence, harmless in fish, is dangerous in men.
Rambunctious adolescent naivete' and a powerful, science-based technology
are poorly matched companions...."
