The Chicago Department of Transportation's Bicycle
Program seeks a college or
university student to plan and execute a public
relations/marketing campaign
to publicize the transportation, health, environmental,
and recreational
benefits of bicycling, and stage events to promote
current projects.
__DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES__
* Develop and execute plans, events, and activities.
* Write and disseminate media advisories, news
releases, and other documents.
* Follow-up with media to secure coverage of bicycling
issues.
* Research the most effective mechanisms for
disseminating information (such
as identifying target audiences, media outlets,
publications).
* Establish a collection of digital photographs of
bicycling for future use.
__QUALIFICATIONS__
Excellent copywriting, editing and proofreading skills;
understanding of
marketing and public relations strategies and
techniques; ability to work
independently, efficiently and cooperatively; excellent
interpersonal skills;
attention to detail; enthusiasm and initiative to
improve bicycling conditions
in Chicago. Preference will be given to students
majoring in marketing or
journalism. Experience bicycling in Chicago preferred.
Must be enrolled as a
full-time student and live in the city of Chicago.
__HOURS AND TERM__
Full-time employment Summer 2004 (May - August).
__Salary__
$8.00 - 12.00/hour.
