Remember to ride far enough out into a narrow lane so that drivers aren't tempted to squeeeeeze by you illegally.
Use the lane just as you would if you were driving a car. That will get you to your destination without scaring pedestrians or the risk of getting hit by a driver who doesn't yield as s/he crosses the sidewalk entering or exiting a driveway or parking lot.
