I asked Brad Bates, manager of the trail, about it and he responded: The DNR and Dane County Parks have met several times and shuffled some letters back and forth over the past few months with the City of Fitchburg to express our concerns about the proposed "at grade" crossing. We have discussed options such as a bike path bridge or culvert that would provide an interrupted travel for the trail users. Some "Higher Officials" within the County have stepped in to help and we are waiting to hear what the alternative plans are from Fitchburg. I would imagine that any type of support from the community would be beneficial in providing a safe layout for the proposed road and the existing Capital City State Trail.
