Jessica Bullen is the woman that Darren Fortney has been E-
mailing us about.

District 1 WisDOT was fortunate enough to have her work for us
while she pursued her masters degree. She biked to work
everyday. She was to have begun working for SEH last Friday.

I am forwarding two emails about Jess Bullen's tragic death and the
July 6th memorial service.

Subject: Jess Bullen

Dear URPL family,

I am writing with news of a tragic and terrible loss. Jessica Bullen,
a December 2004 URPL graduate and this year's AICP
Outstanding Student
Award honoree, died this morning from injuries she received in a
bicycle-automobile accident on Thursday afternoon. Jess was riding in
the countryside near Cottage Grove when she was hit from behind by a
car. Although she was wearing a helmet and had no broken bones, the
accident left her comatose with an irreversible brain stem injury.

Jess's family, her partner, Michael, and Michael's family were here
with her over the past few days.

Arrangements are pending. I will send another e-mail with details,
including places to which condolences and memorials can be sent, when
that information is available.

We were so very privileged to have Jess among us.

Marcia

Subject: Service for Jess Bullen this Wednesday

Dear URPL Family:

A nontraditional, casual service will be held for Jess Bullen on
Wednesday, July 6, at 7:30 p.m., at Giddings Park in Madison.
Giddings Park is located behind Christ Presbyterian Church on
Lake Mendota at the end of North Brearly Street, off East Gorham
Street. Family and friends will be gathering in the small clearing
behind the church.

Michael and Jess's family say that there will be opportunities for
people to share memories and photographs of Jess, or to read something
brief in memory of her if you wish. The family has asked that there be
no commercial flower arrangements.

As you know, Jess was a passionate bicyclist, organic community
gardener, and advocate for sustainability. The family requests that
memorials be made to:

Bike Federation of Wisconsin
106 East Doty Street, #400
Madison, WI 53704
(608) 251-4456

Friends of Troy Gardens
3601 Memorial Drive
Building 14, Room 171
Madison, WI 53704
(608) 240-0409

If you are unable to attend the service but would like to share a
memory of Jess, or if you have any questions, please contact
Kathleen
Lane at (608) 230-6420 (home), (608) 235-4335 (cell) OR Marcia
Caton
Campbell at (608) 836-3434 (home), (608) 772-0120 (cell). Voice
mail
