Fah, the Mayor is probably just mad at Tim for being such a graffiti grammar nazi.
------- Forwarded message follows ------- To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, From: "Marsha Rummel" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> *Please forward. Sorry for any cross-postings!* Mayor Dave is considering not renewing Tim Wong's appointment to the Transit and Parking Commission. I am writing you to urge you to contact the Mayor in support of Tim's reappointment. Tim has been a public transportation and bike advocate since the late 1970s. Apparently, he has displeased the Mayor by voting against some of the Mayor's policy initiatives. This is a clip from an email I sent to the Mayor: "I urge you to keep Tim on the TPC. He represents a constituency that relies on public transit, whether by choice or by need. He definitely represents the opinions of hundreds, if not thousands, of east siders who are committed bikers and Metro users. Since you appointed him, Tim has raised important concerns about Metro service cuts to transit using neighborhoods, advocated for better service to transit deficient neighborhoods, and described the decline in ridership and economic hardship that results from fare hikes. He can be relied on to critically question how we continue to organize urban life on behalf of cars and their storage needs." Over a year ago, Tim voted against the elimination of the popular and well-used Metro routes #10 and 11. These routes bypassed the Square and provided faster service from the Atwood and Marquette neighborhoods to the UW Hospital. Tim voted against the proposed expansion of the Buckeye parking ramp, arguing that nearby ramps were rarely at full capacity. He also opposed the addition of parking on the Capitol Square. Recently, Tim voted against Metro fare increases and testified before the Common Council that fare increases hurt ridership. The Mayor responded to my letter indicating that he hasn't made up his mind. He expressed appreciation for my comments. I bet he'd like to hear from you, too! If you think it is important to have a citizen representative on the TPC who practices a carless lifestyle, opposes Metro service cuts and fare hikes and consistently stands up for bus-dependent riders, then please contact the Mayor and ask him to reappoint Tim Wong.
