This is kind of off-topic, but I'd like to note that there are ways for a west-side bike commuter to return library books without going down Regent St.
The simplest way to return the books is to drop them off at the Monroe St. Branch, which you can reach by exiting the SW Path at Harrison St. If you need to return the books to the downtown library for some reason, I would suggest continuing on the SW Path as far as it goes (Randall Ave. today, but Mills St. in a few days, when the Greenbush Path partially opens), and then continuing on Dayton St. to Henry St. and thence to Mifflin St. and the Library. If you prefer to take Regent St., I would defend to the death your right to do so, but at rush hour I'd suggest an alternative route.
