Aaron,
Go for it! (Sorry I can't join you - I gotta see if the big crappies are in the shallows at U. Bay.0
The most recent DNR GDT report that popped up is from February, and notes the trail then was no longer suitable for snowmobiling...
The trail should be in good shape for a touring bike with 1 1/8" or greater tires, with a trail-type tread rather than a smoother road tread. My road bike tires worked well on the Military Ridge Trail, which has an almost identical surface.
It is fine crushed limestone (I believe) heading east, then is paved from Dousman to Waukesha. There it connects to Milwaukee's trail system at the oak Leaf trail, via the New Berlin Trail at Waukesha. Cottage Grove Road is the most direct route to the west end of the GDT, and the first link below has a button to a map that also shows a less-motor-trafficky approach.

This link has phone numbers for DNR trail staff. If they're not taking an afternoon personal holiday, they can give you up-to-date info on conditions:

Subject: [Bikies] Glacial Drumlin State TrailHas anyone used this trail to go all the way to Milwaukee? I understand it's not paved but is it in good condition? Would a touring bike (i.e. slightly wider wheels than a road bike) be OK on the gravel? Thanks!Aaron Crandall
