*Job Announcement: Advocacy and Volunteer Coordinator*

*Summary*

The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation is looking for a full time Volunteer Coordinator to develop and manage a sophisticated volunteer program that provides meaningful opportunities, engages members in our work, and ensures that the volunteer experience at the organization is mutually beneficial to both the volunteer and the organization. This position will work under the supervision of the Director of Membership and Communications.


 *_Volunteers_*

· Develop a volunteer program that emphasizes recruitment, training and retention.__

· Identify and assess new opportunities to develop volunteers and members through new programs or partnerships.__

· Work with CBF staff to assess need for volunteer-driven activities in their programs and develop strategies to engage volunteers in these activities.__

· Manage volunteer database, including recording volunteer hours.__

· Train event interns in volunteer recruitment.__

· Work closely with community leaders and organizations to encourage community involvement in CBF.__

· Develop volunteer incentive and appreciation programs.__

· Identify non-CBF volunteer opportunities to engage volunteers in other community events and to attract new volunteers to CBF.__

· Develop leadership development program for motivated volunteers.__

· Train CBF staff in volunteer management.__

· Develop an evaluation system of current volunteer activities and processes.

· Manage CBF’s internship program, including recruitment, management assistance, tracking hours, assisting with reporting requirements, and intern 'fun days'.__


   *_Membership_*

· Manage all aspects of road shows.__

· Work with Director of Membership to increase membership retention.__

· Increase membership base by encouraging volunteers to sign up as members.__

· Identify engaging ways to get more members involved as volunteers and to assist in our mission.__


   *_Advocacy_*

· Develop a strategic plan around the recruitment, mobilization and retention of advocacy volunteers, key contacts, and CBF spokespeople.

· Research programs and methods to track action alert responses.

· Educate volunteers and staff on state and local political processes and CBF issues.

· Identify advocacy training needs of volunteers and provide training opportunities.

· Work with the Chief Strategic Officer, Executive Director, Suburban Coordinators and Community Liaisons to engage members in advocacy activities in targeted communities.

· Facilitate the development of volunteer leadership on local issues and the necessary methods of communication and accountability

· Serve as staff liaison on CBF Issues Committee.

· Serve as coordinator of CBF staff Engaging Members Team and Legislation and Advocacy Team

*Qualifications:*

· A desire to improve Chicagoland communities by promoting bicycling.

· At least two years of volunteer coordinating experience or relevant experience.

· Excellent writing and presentation skills.

· Proficiency with spreadsheets, web and publishing tools.

· Strong problem solving skills.

· Good customer service and interpersonal communication skills.

· Experience working for or being on the board of an advocacy organization.

· Experience working with coalitions on successful advocacy campaigns.

· Experience developing and conducting presentations or trainings.

· Experience identifying program goals/challenges and developing strategic plans for improvement.

*Salary and benefits:*

$32,000 - $37,000 per year depending upon experience and skills. The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation offers a progressive benefit program that includes health, dental, and retirement options.
