I happen to work on the system that posts scans of "accident" reports to the
city web site, and have been meaning to ask our Police Dept. just why they keep
using "accident" (it's even in the URL). It doesn't help that the Wisconsin
state standard form is called a "Motor Vehicle Accident Report" (two misnomers
- "motor" and "accident").

I remember an episode of "ER"; typical scene, kid on a stretcher, lots of
high-tech med stuff, the patient is all wigged out because he cracked up his
dad's prized classic Mustang. To help relax the kid, one of the nurses says
"Kid, they're called 'accidents' for a reason." I felt like a sports fan,
wanting to yell "throw the BALL!" at the screen, but instead say "DON'T SAY
THAT!" Sadly, people get a lot of their "values" from programs like this, and
they really should not have their "role model" characters saying things like
that. (Sounds like something a certain defense attorney might say....)
