I don't wish to make the argument that there isn't a problem here, but it merits 
mention that taking a cab or participating in a community car program are 
rational alternatives to spending the day using the bus or riding your bicycle 
to a remote facility. Yes, cabs are expensive, but they are a lot cheaper than 
owning a car for casual use or-- unless your time is worthless-- burning off 
hours waiting for a Brigadoonesque bus.
