With all this talk about school "consolidation" (i.e., build brand new schools for affluent wasteside sprawl while busing kids elsewhere after closing schools in more diverse older neighbourhoods) and the talk on bikies about promoting sustainable and healthy trips to school makes me think about all the, to borrow (for the second time today!) Mike Barrett's favourite buzz word, "synergies" possible between the save-our-schools and the walk/bike-to-school advocates. And here's a way you can get speak up and get involved:
The situation with the schools will be one of the topics of discussion at the monthly Northside Planning Council meeting next Wednesday (25), starting at 6:30pm, at Warner Park Centre. The first part of the meeting is devoted to public appearances for any visitors who wish to speak, but you're also welcome to stick around to listen to the discussion of the regular agenda, which will include discussion of possible responses to school closing proposals.
