For one part, this speaks volumes for having a bike mirror. It
provides the security of being able to monitor what drivers approaching
from behind are up to. I feel more naked than a Portlander without one.

Also, when I was a lad in Summit County, Colorado, biking on
narrow-shouldered busy highways to go hiking or trout fishing, some
rednecks in a pickup yelled at me to get off the road. Whereupon my
equally redneck dad gave me a huge revolver to wear in a shoulder
holster over my clothes on my left shoulder, where motorists would see
it clearly. It was (and I believe still is, there) as legal as having a
rifle on your truck cab rack.

Curiously, no one ever harassed me again.

Subject: [Bikies] Ugly incident last night on Speedway

We are fairly lucky in Madison that these types of incidents don't
happen very often. I rarely hear about intentional harassment of
bicyclists, besides the standard, "Get off the street/Get on the path!"
or honking and one finger salutes.

But last night, an obviously well-equipped bicyclist was grabbed from a
moving van. Anyone with information, please contact the police.
