Fitchburg-Oregon-Brooklyn (FOB) Trail Advocates and Sustain Dane/Oregon would like to invite everyone from the Brooklyn-Oregon-Fitchburg area to join us on Saturday morning, August 18th, as we experience the joys of the Capital City Trail and the many other wonderful bicycling amenities in/near Madison. We also want to familiarize area residents with some of the current problems bicyclists face when trying to ride between our communities and to/from Madison: the lack of bike trails and lanes in certain areas, the lack of safe north-south routes (i.e. with light motor vehicle traffic), etc.
In particular we want to include as many community leaders as possible - especially our elected officials, administrators, and planners. There will be two tours - a Long Tour (about 32 miles) for adults in good health only, and a Short Tour (about 8-10 miles) for children and people who cannot or prefer to not ride the longer distance. The Short Tour will ride on bicycle trails and paths only. The Long Tour will include highway riding. Since this will be on a Saturday, traffic is expected to be light. The Long Tour will depart from Triangle Park in downtown Oregon at 9:00 AM sharp. Riders should arrive before 8:30 in time for safety and equipment checks as well as a brief explanation of the Tour and Q & A. We will ride north of Oregon through the Township of Dunn to the Capital City Trail and then ride this beautiful Trail to downtown Madison. Arriving at the Square at about 11:00, we will have lunch at the Farmers Market. At noon we will take off again and bike northeast on the Trail - along the Isthmus - to the Yahara River. After turning around we will ride back downtown, get on the Southwest Commuter Bike Path, ride through campus and the near west side of Madison, enter Fitchburg, ride the Capital City Trail east through Fitchburg, and then return to Oregon via Syene Road, Byrne Road, and Highway MM, arriving in downtown Oregon at about 2:30. Total distance will be about 32 miles. The Short tour will depart at 9:30 sharp from the Capital City Trail parking lot on Syene Road, which is about 3/4 mile west of the Highway 14/McCoy Road interchange. Riders should arrive before 9:00 in time for safety and equipment checks, etc. The Short Tour will ride the Capital City Trail to downtown Madison as well, joining the Long Tour along the way at 9:45. After enjoying a Farmer's Market lunch on the Square we will return via the Capital City trail, arriving at the Syene Road parking lot at about 1:15. Total distance will be about 8-10 miles. There is no charge for the tour, but riders age 16 and older will need to purchase a Wisconsin state trail pass. Cost of a one-day pass is $4, and we will stop at a self-serve pay station during the Tours. _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
