Indeed there will be construction issues with the Wisconsin Institutes of
Discovery that will affect bicyclists. UW Transportation Services and the City
of Madison are doing their best to minimize the impacts and provide safe and
appropriate detours.
After it is all said and done, I think that conditions will end up being better
for bicyclists in the long run...with bike lanes added to Randall Ave.
The unfortunate truth is that construction detours are a pain and hard on all
road users...add to that a healthy mix of bikes/peds/motorists all doing
various legal and illegal maneuvers in the campus area...and that the campus
area is undergoing an unprecedented amount of construction at the moment.
Continue to bring up your concerns to help the wonks sort the issues out...but
be assured that people are listening and trying their best to resolve the
issues for all users in a safe and convenient way.
