Thanks for all of the ideas especially in tying this bike stuff in
w/state level professional/medical orgs involved in pediatric health.
I know Robbie has done great work over the years trying to get the
med establishment involved exactly in this way (along with other
health initiatives involving bikes, of course). Funding ran out for
her project and I'm not sure what the status is of those initiatives.
Having someone from the inside of the establishment reaching out
might finally complete the connection.
In any case, there is no one individual appointed grand master
coordinator of all things bikies. It is all pretty anarchically
self-directed. You just show up to the meetings you can show up to,
speak with your own brand of knowledge (in your case it appears to be
pediatric health, prevention, etc.), talk to/email your alder, the
school board members, and write op-ed pieces. You have a special,
shall we say, authority being God--er, I mean, a doctor--so whatever
& wherever you take this would have extra-special power over anything
us mere mortals might have to say. Joking, but seriously, just going
for it wherever & whenever you can fit it into your schedule will
just help add the momentum. The more perspectives we have pushing
toward the same goal, the more powerful the message and the more
likely we'll have success.
Yo, Jeff, hows about co-authoring your thing with the MD to make your
Op-Ed a little more, ahem, deific?!

unfortunately too tied up with other matters to initiate it alone,
I'd be happy to help co-author a letter/op-ed piece or (schedule
permitting) speak at a school board/city/whatever meeting regarding
this. I could also see if the state chapter of the American Academy
of Pediatrics was interested in supporting any particular measures
or policies.
