For a decade I have worn my "Bell Quest" (looks like a chamber pot).

But then----with the mishaps we have all experienced--how many of us
have a dent in our foam helmets after a decade?

A decade?
I had one of those Bell's about THREE helmets ago (actually, it had a very cool impression of the outer chainring).

I learned last summer that one should replace one's helmet every 5 years since the foam does break down, chemically, slowly, to the point where it cannot give one maximum protection. I know it sounds like junk science, but looking at the bigger picture, it's not a chance I'll take. Anyways, a good helmet can be had for a good bargain when any of the many accessories sales are on.
