OK I guess even non-profits are non-immune to mudslinging politics. I
don't know any of these people personally, so here's my somewhat
objective 2 cents, thrown in for no good reason I suppose.
Renee, it appears you spent a lot of energy on your recent missive while
chastising others for wasting energy, and I found it highly critical of
Pam. I can appreciate some flippancy - it implies a sense of humor. I
don't appreciate being overly critical of someone who (from what I've
read here) is concerned about recent actions by the board. Rather than
just complaining she is getting involved and I respect that.
Richard, you make a good point about restricted corporate funds. I'm
not sure why Pam is opposed, I'd like to hear the other side of that
coin. You also make a good point about keeping talented resources on
the board. However you imply that Pam will try to reinstate Dar,
generally cause trouble, and embolden the evil enemies of biking.
Sounds a bit extreme to me. You also express concern about having a
"single-minded" and "groupthink" board - it seems to me that is what we
get when we leave board-opposing views off the ballot.
So after all that here's where I'm at with this whole election thing:
Firing the ED to "change direction" is fine, but doing it abruptly
without warning or severence is unethical, bad business practice, and is
sure to undermine the organization. If that's what really happened, the
board needs some new voices on board.
If we're going to bother having a member vote for the board, all
qualified candidates should be allowed on the ballot, with a brief bio
and statement included. Let the board endose, but then let the members
decide for themselves.
I agree with previous posters (and Pam) the board needs to communicate
with the membership better. If I'm going to give my money to someone I
expect to know what's going on.
And while I hate to "throw out the babies with the bathwater", the
combination of the apparent mishandling of the ED firing, the lack of
communication, and the keeping of candidates off the ballot have all
convinced me to replace as many board members as possible.
