Dear fellow bikies,
Since my name has been floating out there as a BFW
board candidate, I thought I should at least make a
statement.
My main reason for running as a "write-in" candidate
came after talking to a friend who threw his ballot
away. I asked him why and he said, "five positions
and five candidates, what's the point in voting?"
I grew up in the Fox Valley, 10 miles east of
Appleton, in a bedroom community with very limited
mass transit. I discovered bicycling early in my life
and fell in love with the freedom it gave me at an
early age. like many of my peers, I got a car as soon
as I could drive and left the bike in the garage. Not
until I started college at Madison (where there was
little parking on campus) did I "re-discover" the
freedom and efficiency offered by a bicycle.
I'm not going to comment on the current board or
past actions. I'm always grateful for those who serve
on this and other boards as it's often alot of work
for little or no recognition...until things go bad. I
don't know what happened or why. I would just like to
see us move on. I remember thinking recently as I
enjoyed a great ride on a local bike path, that all
the wonderful bicycling culture we enjoy in this state
is due to the hard work of people long before I was
involved in cycling. I would like to see the Bike Fed
build on what's been accomplished, continue to grow
and continue to add to the great quality of life we
enjoy in Wisconsin.
Thanks for listening.
