Brought to you by popular request, I’ve added a page to my web site outlining
what issues I would like to focus on if elected to the Board of Directors of
the BFW. In the interest of brevity, I will simply suggest you go to the
following link if you care to read it:

As to the role of corporate members, I say this:

The role of corporate members of the Bike Fed should be minimal when it comes
to BFW policy decisions. They certainly can provide insight and work in an
advisory function. While corporate members can be invaluable, care should be
taken to ensure that any monetary support received does not improperly sway
policy decisions of the board.

Mind you, I did not say that I have any evidence that this has occurred within
the ranks of the BFW. I am also not implying it here.

The issue was brought up when I reported to the “Bikies” listserve that one of
the directors asked me what role I thought the bicycle industry had in the BFW.
This occurred during my interview with the nominating committee and I answered
that question in the same manner as stated above.

If the Bike Fed doesn’t have a clear written policy regarding corporate
donations and sponsorship, we really should. Non-profits need to be careful
about this sort of thing. I’m not aware of such a policy for the BFW but it
might exist.
