A Reminder - TONIGHT, 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM, at Olbrich Gardens, Friends of Starkweather Creek Annual Meeting. Learn more about plans to pave Garver wetlands.

(Oh, but you can rest assured that the paving will be of the *green* variety!)

Message forwarded from Friends of Starkweather Creek:

Hello,

Two proposals exist for use of the Garver building at Olbrich Garden: 1. Arts Incubator; 2. Green Building Sustainability Center.

The use will impact adjacent land which currently functions as wildlife habitat surrounding the Garver Building - the junction of the two branches of Starkweather Creek. This land is intricately linked to a chain of wetlands and open spaces running all the way to East Town! Some of these lands are rare, remnant fen communities. Want wetlands paved as plan proposals call for?

Friends of Starkweather Creek (FSC) will host a forum as part of our annual membership meeting to examine specific habitat, watershed and watershed education related issues of the Garver site on October 25th with guests representing both proposals (Commonwealth Development and Paul Davis Restorations (the Barnsdale Group).

Thursday, Oct 25th, 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM, in the Upper Meeting Room of Olbrich Gardens, 3330 Atwood Avenue (snacks, drinks included).

Also on hand will be city staff to discuss ongoing Starkweather projects. These include the current work along the Worthington Park/SASY creek border, other bike and trail work, wetland and habitat restoration, and options for future watershed improvements. When will we convert the Dempsey Drainage ditch into a green space instead of a concrete corridor, for instance? Never, if we can't rally a public to insist it is a priority!

We need your voice, input, and presence. We really do. In order to have a legitimate voice in common, we need to offer our voice in discussion and support.

Please attend the Friends of Starkweather Creek annual membership meeting on Thursday, 10/25, 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM, in the Upper Meeting Room of Olbrich Botanical Gardens.

Come and hear the latest about progress on restoration, trails, and other efforts to improve Starkweather Creek. Learn how to get involved. Enjoy delicious refreshments.

Thanks.
