No Eric,

It is not the issue of Smart Growth that is splitting bicyclists. Smart
Growth is one of many tools available to help make bicycling better in
Wisconsin. You have yet to forward an argument as to why Smart growth
can't help make Wisconsin a better place to bicycle - and I think it is
because you do not understand what Smart Growth is. So how about you
get over your reflexive anti-smart growth rhetoric, and go do some
reading. I suggest your read "Suburban Nation". Seriously, I believe
that there are elements within smart growth that even a libertarian can
appreciate.

Matt.

Dear Group,

BFW is a group to advance the interests of cycling and cyclists. On
that we can agree. But pitting some sincere cyclists against other
sincere cyclists should certainly NOT be a result. There is no way for
BFW to get involved in either local zoning or STATE powers over property
without bitterly splitting the bicycle membership base. So why suggest
that as a goal? Certainly the addition of a word such as "Smart" does
not make action either smart or a consensus.

These past days of this discourse makes such advocacy clearly dangerous.
