I think that what would be most useful is for BFW to actually say what it
stands for.

Matt talking to David is nice...but I think that there is a serious problem
with the current board being open and forthcoming about what its intentions
are. It's not clear to me what David's authority to set policy is (what
exactly IS a deputy director?)...and whether or not the current board has made
it clear to him or anyone else what their positions are.

The bikies can spin their wheels all day, but the truth is that we don't know
what direction that BFW is headed because they haven't said. David's post
indicating that mission/vision information will be removed from the website
implies that it is no longer current...which implies that there is a new
mission/vision. I assume too, then, that the current membership brochure will
cease to be distributed immediately since it contains the same information as
the website (and has been used for about the last eight or more years). For
clarities sake, the mission/vision information on the BFW website and brochure
has never been part of any legal documents...but has been operating policy for
as long as I know, at least since during Jeanne Hoffman's time when the
brochure and web information was created.

An organization that accepts donations and grants needs to be extremely
transparent about what its intentions are. The direction of the organization
can not be determined by a series of ad hoc decisions made by individual board
members. The board has to speak with one voice...and out loud so that donors
know what is going on.

BFW says that it wants membership to be part of setting the agenda...if that is
so, I would assume that before any mission/vision changes are made that member
input would be sought.
