I was worried that this might be off topic, but having seen recent
discussions about who did or didn't vote for Goldwater I've revised
my definition of "off-topic." With any luck, I can start a flame war
over whether or not the words "sustainable community" are a
clandestine reference to Stalin's first Five-Year Plan.**

Sustainable Community Living at Arboretum Cohousing
Arbco is a new, member-developed neighborhood community under
construction now on a 2.2 acre site on the corner of Erin & Orchard
Sts. in Madison, WI --- just a half block away from Lake Wingra and
the Henry Vilas zoo. Our forty homes will occupy two new buildings
and an assortment of existing single and multi-family buildings. The
spacious common house features a community kitchen and dining room,
playspace for kids, music and exercise rooms, and guest bedrooms
available for everyone's use. Arbco is legally organized as a
condominium association; members own their own homes while the land
and common house are owned and managed by the whole community.
Our next information session and site tour is this Saturday, November
3rd, at 10:30am. We're meeting in the common room of Village
Cohousing, at the corner of Mills & Mound Streets. Wander into the
courtyard from Mound Street, and head straight back to reach the
common space. The info session is followed by a potluck lunch with
members at noon. Children are welcome, and there is a kids' playroom
adjacent to the meeting room with adult supervision.
Construction is underway---bike by the site and have a look. 10 of
our 40 homes are still available. Some existing homes will be ready
for move-in within a few months, the others when construction is
complete next summer. If you know anyone who might be interested in
