Richard:
Again, I don't think it is very useful to dig through the past...minuia such as
why wasn't the elevator statement posted on the web in 2005, etc. I've already
been fired, you can't fire me again.

The fact remains that the statement about Smart Growth has been on the BFW
website and in the BFW membership brochure since long before my time at
BFW...the graphics and text date from the Jeanne Hoffman years. I can not
point to the moment in time when either the statement on the website or the
text of the membership brochure was approved by the board...I would assume that
the board was consulted at some point in time about both, especially back in
the days when Jeanne was starting and the board was more closely involved in
operations...but the board has had YEARS AND YEARS to notice and say something
about it if they disagreed.

It is certainly reasonable for BFW to express its mission in new and different
ways, especially if it is seeking a wider base of membership. But it makes
bicycle advocates nervous when it appears a change in course is happening to
their beloved statewide organization with no real explanation. I don't know if
there is an actual change in course or not...but someone at BFW needs to stand
up soon and say what they stand for. If that could just happen, I think a
great deal of the heated discussion would end.
