Just an FYI. No meaning past that. This list has had a lot of discussion recently about Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin policy and politics. In case anyone is coming late to the discussion, or may be confused, I wanted to state for the record, as a long time Bike Fed staff, volunteer, contributor, and supporter, as well as a subscriber to Bikies since I was using DOS (eek!), that Bikies is not a Bike Fed organ, nor are all subscribers to Bikies members of Bike Fed.
This may not matter to anyone, but it might also be important if people are forming their opinions about either group from the communication, politics, actions, or writings of the other group. There is certainly quite a bit of overlap between BFW members in Dane County and subscribers to Bikies, but they are in no way formally affiliated. In case anyone is interested in the history, membership, etc or Bikies, you can see some of that information here: http://www.danenet.org/bcp2006/bikies.html As an aside, I think Bikies is very cool. As I said, it has been in existence since the era of DOS and 9 Kb dial-up modems. Since I'm not a computer geek, the fact that I managed to subscribe to and post to a list that far back is pretty amazing to me. It has always been an incredible organizing tool for bicycle advocacy in Madison, and it's sister site, the Bicycling Community Page (BCP), used to have a link history that would make most volunteer web pages blush. The BCP has been on vacation for awhile now, mostly due to the need for a web master with the time to update it. If anyone has the knowledge and energy to step into this role, I'm sure there would be many people that would be appreciative and willing to contribute content. Enjoy the beautiful day and the wonderful community we have, virtual or analog!
