But Mike, increasing the gas tax won't encourage those who drive fuel
efficient vehicles (McKibben type) to drive less.  The sting of high fuel
prices doesn't hurt them that much.  So our roads will continue to get
more congested with automobiles, highways will continue to be widened,
and bicycling on most streets will become even more unsafe.  

Increasing the gas tax is only half of the solution. The second half
takes the money that is collected via increased gas taxes and offers it
back to those members of the public who don't drive as much (fewer miles
annually), than your typical Wisconsin household (per capita).

But first we have to get the stupid law that requires all gas tax money
be dumped into the transportation fund, for the state's politicians to
dole out to the real "socialists" in our state:  the road building
industry..
