I would have liked to attend but have decided to attend the 2007 ChangeMaker Awards presentation at Olbrich Gardens instead since I know the award winners. Had I chosen to speak at the BFW listening session instead, I would have told them that effective and widespread bicycling advocacy is needed now more than ever before, due to global warming, strangling traffic congestion and serious environmental degradation.
There has never been a better time to get more people into bicycling, to get people who already do it to do it more frequently, and to help those who have barriers to pick it up. Bicycling advocacy should be done for any reason that makes sense to people. But they should be informed of the reasons why bicycling as an alternative to car driving is good for people, the community and the planet. "People should use bicycles instead of motor vehicles as much as possible because bicycling is good for the health, easy on the environment, light on the pocketbook, and good for the spirit". - Ken Kifer http://kenkifer.com/bikepages/ ------------ Preceding message ------------- From: "Matt Logan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2007 21:30:40 -0600 Subject: [Bikies] Important reminder: BFW listening session Thursday. I just got off the phone with Jay Ferm, one of the BFW board members, and I got the impression that people who choose to speak at the listening session could have a huge impact on the direction that the BFW takes in the coming years. Starting in January, the BFW Board will begin a process of strategic planning which will define what BFW's "new direction" is going to be. If you have an opinion about what that direction should be, tomorrow's meeting is the most effective time to express it!
