Matt and Eric;

Sitting on the sidelines, you guys are fun to read.
Cycling has nothing intrinsically to do with politics.
It's about putting two wheels under foot on the road.
WHERE we cycle and the dangers from other roadway
users and abusers has everything to do with politics.
Now that I live in Madison, I understand the concern
of the Madison "Socialists" who would like the help of
more government order. Having lived in small towns I
understand the fear that rural "Libertarians" have of
more government "disorder." (Although I disagree with
it.)
The truth lies in the context of the place. All
politics is local, as someone said. The most effective
participation in politics is at your neighborhood and
municipal meeting halls.
Neither of you are going to concede your positions
because neither of you are going to disinvest in your
homes, history, and municipal involvement. Some of us
have had more benign governmental experience than
others.

Madison has serious traffic congestion issues. Period.
This is something Eric doesn't understand or
experience daily near Ripon. The wide open spaces of
Rural Wisconsin doesn't force the issue as it does
here in Central Dane County. What issues matters here
doesn't in other parts of the state. Heck, just
outside of Dane County (Evansville) Madisonians are
considered "those ______ liberals." Yet those people
just outside of Madison take up space on Madison
streets and parking without paying their share of the
expenses. This is where astute land use planning comes
in for now and the immediate future. Ripon won't see
anything like that in Eric's lifetime.

Bicycling won't save the world by itself, but it'll
sure make it easier when it's safer.

My two cents on this argument.

But hey, time out is over --- GAME ON!!!
