Karen Kessenich:

No transportation information in TCT, no reply to LWV, no opinion from
the anti-rta folks.

Richard Pertzborn:

"I believe the county needs to be proactive in planning for future
positive transportation changes," he said in comments to the League of
Women Voters. "As a county supervisor, I support the concept of the RTA
and responsible growth."

He wants Dane County to continue providing high quality services and
calls for responsible growth policies while protecting the environment
and the county's open spaces.

Seems like a good guy to me.

Cynda Solberg:

"Solberg said traffic is a big problem in Dane County but wants the
board to take a look at all alternatives before opting for a commuter
rail system.
"Look at expanding and enhancing bus service to outlying communities,
roadway improvements and incentives for car pooling," she said in
comments to the League of Women Voters."

I don't think Solberg gets the fact that T2020 did look at alternatives,
or that most County transportation efforts are going into roads right
now. Actually, none of the anti-RTA candidates seem to get this: the
RTA is not the all-encompassing solution that will preempt future
roadbuilding in Dane County. A quick look at the our Metropolitan
Planning Organization's Transportation Improvement Program (or TIP)
ought to be enough to convince anyone that road improvements are a big
part of Dane County's transportation future:

The summary section of the 2008-2012 TIP contains 1/2 page of transit
projects, 1/3 page of ped/bike projects and 2 1/2 pages of road
projects. And based on the maps, it looks like the ratios even more
heavily favor roads when you consider the number of miles involved with
each type of project.

Sheesh!
