Dear Group, Of course I speak as someone not living in Madison. But the idea of a dedicated bike path in urban areas sounds like a good idea if locally funded. That means that local people support what local people want. That is if it occurs. And certainly bicycle advocates who claim that bike interests come first--should all be on board advocating interest in Bicycle Boulevards.
Again, if local methods pay for such an improvement it would be a wonderful benefit for those with a bicycle interest. Sure the "old pros" on this site, particularly those who live "on the isthmus" feel it might not be worthwhile considering the scarcity of money funds. But even if the "old pros" are used to arterial traffic and open car doors and have a sixth sense for left turning cars, young people are not necessarily so endowed. All the children from six to sixteen will benefit tremendously. And their parents who have never been on a bike since childhood will applaud--and just maybe will once again ride a bike.
