This Sherman B.S. is sooooooo Anti-Platinum. It is crystal clear that fixing the festering wound that is Sherman Drive is going to require some work by us bikies. Folks, IT IS TIME TO ADVOCATE! Let's ditch our cabin fever and kick some ass this weekend!
Here is what I propose (unless met with irreconcilable apathy): Distribute informational flyers advertizing this meeting on 3/12, and outlining the benefits of TWLTL-Sherman to residents within 3-5 blocks of Sherman. Set up information and message board on Madvelocity.com about the project. Include a URL on the flyer to this information. Here are the work items I see required to accomplish this feat: 1) Assemble some bike-friendly facts on making Sherman a TWLTL. (send me your ideas please) 1) Create a flyer (I can do this, unless someone is eager to take it on) 2) Set up Sherman project sub-site on Madvelocity.com. (Ken L., are you up for this?) 3) Identify residences in the area, create route maps of 50 or so residences. Coordinate volunteers. (Need a volunteer for this) 4) Distribute flyers this weekend. How about using warner park , 10am, as a gathering place/time? (this is where we need lots of volunteers, (I can help with this) 5) Follow-up after flyer distribution on answering concerns posted to Sherman Project sub-website. (I can help with this) At the very least, we can help educate the area residents who seem to have been brainwashed by the Northside business community. Please e-mail me if you would like to help on any of this - it is very important. --- "Attached is a note I sent to Satya. Her response was less than enthusiastic. She claims she is looking out for the residents who live along the street. Amazing... A three- lane street with bike lanes (road diet) would calm the street for those residents, allow them to cross the street more easily, make it easier to get out of driveways and side streets, get bikes off the sidewalks thus making walking more pleasant, and actually encourage commuters to use Packers-Northport. It is amazing how many commuters "shortcut" onto Sherman. It would also make the northside more accessible to biking." _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
