1) There is _NO_ North Sherman Avenue lit drop this weekend!

2) The BTA will hold an informational meeting next Saturday (March 15th)
at 1:00pm - location TBA - To discuss what I have learned and strategize
about how bikies can most effectively advocate for bike lanes on North
Sherman.

I had a meeting with Satya Rhodes-Conway (the alder representing the
North Sherman area) today, and it turns out that the window of
opportunity is much, much, longer than I had originally anticipated.

Traffic Engineering is going to be using a more temporary kind of paint
for the lane markings after the resurfacing - this means they are
anticipating the possibility of a change in lane configuration. Our
window of opportunity to get this lane change is more on the order of 18
months rather than the 2 I originally anticipated based on a 6/30/08
start date. This is really good news because it gives us a much better
shot at successfully addressing the North Sherman issue.

Satya has been getting a lot of e-mail from bicyclists who are upset
over the "no TWLTL" comment in the meeting announcement. That is good
because it means we have a pool of supporters out there who can help
with the lit drop when the time is right. Satya understands the value
of the TWLTL quite well and was eager to share information with me about
how the BTA can help coordinate the most effective campaign to change
neighborhood opinion so we can fix North Sherman once and for all.

My advice for the next week on this:

_PLEASE_DO_NOT_ go to the meeting on Wednesday and demand a TWLTL! The
meeting will be primarily geared toward answering neighborhood questions
about how the resurfacing will impact residents during construction.

_PLEASE_DO_ come to the BTA meeting on the 15th at 1:00pm. ( I am
looking for ideas for a good Northside location that I will announce on
Monday. )
