I would be interested in what, if any, follow up the city traffic engineering staff have with these design considerations. Will insights into safety for non-motorized vehicles be incorporated into all future, and retrofitted into existing, Madison roundabouts?
The planned reconstruction of the intersection at Monroe / Regent / Crazy Legs / Breese / Oakwood on the near west side (right at the base of the giant UW football phallus) included, as one of the possible options, a roundabout or traffic circle. I don't know when that discussion and funding will resume, but if a roundabout becomes a serious contender there, it will be essential that non-motorized users of the intersection get fair access and safe accommodation. For purely aesthetic reasons I like the idea of a European style circular plaza. However, I'd give that up in a heartbeat if circles are inherently dangerous to bicyclists. _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
